Suspicion

At this moment

what I hate most

about this shutdown is

on the rare occasions

that I go out I look

suspiciously at every

single person I meet

Do they have it?

Are they going

to give it to me?

And I hate that

It goes against all 

I’ve ever believed in

But I saw you

yesterday and it

made me suspicious

For close to a decade, BILL MCCLOUD served as the emcee for multi-day music festivals in Cherokee and Marble Falls, Texas. Though he lives in Oklahoma, the music frequently calls him back to Austin and Kerrville. Recent poems of his have appeared in Oklahoma Today and Oklahoma English Journal.
